Riviera Maya Trip Budget Calculator
Pick your nights, travelers, base town and style, tick the activities you want, and get a daily and total estimate in US dollars and Mexican pesos. Ferry, ruins and entry fees come from official or operator pages we checked; lodging, food and local transport are shown as honest ranges because they vary by season and by booking. It is built for first-time planners comparing Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Isla Mujeres. Every price can be edited, and nothing leaves your browser or is stored.
Calculating...
How it works, and what it does not cover
The calculator adds five lines and then applies a buffer. Lodging is one room per two travelers (rounded up), multiplied by the nightly range for your town and style. Food is a per-person daily range by meals style, scaled for the Hotel Zone and Tulum beach zone, where menus cost more. Transport combines a daily local allowance for your chosen mode with an airport round trip. Activities are exact: whatever you tick, at the per-person price shown. Taxes is the optional Visitax line. The buffer (10% by default) is added to the subtotal.
What is verified, and what is a range
- Verified 22 October 2026: Isla Mujeres ferry 580 MXN and Cozumel ferry 640 MXN (adult round trip, Ultramar); Tulum ruins 265 MXN for foreign adults (INAH unified fee; the zone opens 8:00 to 17:00 with last entry 15:30); Chichen Itza 697 MXN for foreign adults (INAH 105 plus state 592 under the Boleto Unico).
- Cenote entries: operator pages report anywhere from about 150 to 500 MXN. Gran Cenote is reported at 500 MXN by two operator sites; a third lists an older figure. We default to 350 MXN, so edit it for the cenote you pick.
- Ranges, not facts: lodging, food and local transport are ranges built from 2026 travel roundups and the price bands in our own guides. They are not quotes. Use the room-price override once you have a real booking.
- Left blank on purpose: eco-park tickets (Xcaret, Xel-Ha), snorkel tours, and the Visitax amount. We could not read current prices from the operators or the official site, so you type them in.
Not included
Flights, travel insurance, shopping, nightlife, rental car insurance beyond the allowance, resort fees, all-inclusive packages, and tips beyond the usual restaurant tipping. Prices shift with season: Christmas, New Year and Easter run well above the low-season ranges, so lean toward the top of each range then. Use the printed estimate as a starting point, then check live prices for your dates.
Prices are shown in pesos with approximate US dollars at the rate you enter. Your bank adds its own margin; always choose to be charged in pesos at ATMs and card terminals.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this Riviera Maya budget estimate?
Park, ruin and ferry fees are checked against official or operator pages and are exact as of the verified date. Lodging, food and local transport are shown as ranges built from third-party 2026 roundups and our own guides, so treat the headline number as a planning midpoint, not a quote. You can override the nightly room price and every activity price.
Does the estimate include flights?
No. Flights, travel insurance, shopping, nightlife, tips beyond normal restaurant tipping and any all-inclusive package are not modeled. Airport transfers are included in the transport line.
What is Visitax and why is the amount blank?
Visitax is the Quintana Roo state tourist contribution for foreign visitors, paid through visitax.gob.mx. The amount is set in pesos by the state and we could not read it from the official site on the verified date, and third-party sources disagree. Tick the box and type the amount you see on the official site.
What exchange rate does it use?
The default is 18.4 MXN per USD, based on a daily average reported for 16 October 2026. Change it to today's rate. Rates move, and your bank or card adds its own margin.
Why is the buffer 10%?
Small unplanned costs add up on any trip: a taxi instead of a colectivo, an extra snack, a cenote you did not plan. The 10% is applied to the subtotal of lodging, food, transport, activities and taxes. You can change it.
